This Special Presentation offers a clear and simple, yet detailed description of Hull Planking Plank on Bulkhead or Plank on Frame Model Ships. The need for this Presentation comes from the fact that many of the models available to us are made in countries where our language is not native and the translations often leave us scratching our heads. I can recall one event where a detailed and important instruction was written in english but the key words in the sentance were not translated and none of the online translations web sites where of any help. Your often left to guess at this point and guessing is never a good concept when it comes to this Hobby.

Each Model Kit Designer also plays a sometimes twisted role in how a given model is to be planked. I recall one kit where I was told to use a heavy duty staple gun to hold the planks in place while the glue dried. I don't have the heaviest duty staple gun, but I knew well enough not to even attempt this. I'd be filling in allot more then a couple of small holes and I'd probably would have had to leave the staples where they were. Asuming of course the model itself was able to stand up to the impact without shattering frames. Yet after a few models you begin to see that while there may be a dozen different ways of saying how to plank a ship's hull, they are all in some ways saying same things, and once those same things have become clear to you then the different methods or the poor instructions become much less of an issue. This is not to mean that you should ignore all the slightly different instructions either. Different methods are sometimes valid because of the kind of ship or the methods of the designer. What you'll learn in the following pages will offer a strong center and a clearer understanding of the core skills that are common in to Hull Planking most every TallShip model kit. These same core concepts will also be as useful for Scratch projects as well.

Greg and Dirk put allot of time and thought into the following Presentation. They both know that no matter how clear the instructions, there will still be more question who's answers may not be found in these pages. To take things a step further DryDock Models has opened a new Forum titled simply, Hull Planking. After reading this presentation any remaining questions can be posted for Greg and Dirk who will be the primary Moderators of this new Forum. Many of us know that more then a few first time builders would never see their second because of the mysteries of Hull Planking. DryDock Models offer it's Thanks to Greg and Dirk for their dedication to help insure that both first time and even experienced Modelers will now have all the help they could possibley need with one of this Hobby's most difficult tasks.'
